The Oba Of Lagos Issued WarningTo Lagos Citizens Ahead Of Eyo Festival

in Lagos

The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu II has
issued a warning to the citizens of Lagos not to put
on shoes and women not to wear head
scarf during the Eyo festival in the state.


PM News reports that the state is set to hold
the traditional and cultural festival on
Saturday, May 20 as part of the Lagos at 50
celebrations.


The king spoke at a press conference at
Ilupesi Square on Lagos Island where he
was represented by the Olumegbon of
Lagos, Chief Fatai Lawal.


The monarch outlined the dos and don’ts of
the festival warning that Lagos citizens should
not wear shoes while women must not use
headscarf around the vicinity of the
masquerades.


He said the Eyo Festival was being held “as
part of the Lagos@50 celebrations to honour illustrious sons of Lagos including
His Royal Highness, the Late Elegushi of
Ikate, Oba Yekinni Elegushi (Kusenla II) and
the deceased Co-Chairman, Lagos@50
Committee, Mr. Rasheed Gbadamosi.”

He said the procession would take off at the
Iga Iduganran to culminate at the Tafawa
Balewa Square where the various Eyo
groups would be on parade and promised
adequate security.

The monarch said plenty people are
expected from around the world and
assured that it would boost tourism.
