Anderson Calls For Synergy In The Tourism Cluster

The Commissioner for Ministry of Culture
and Tourism, Mr. Eric Anderson has tasked
the Ministries, Departments and Agencies
(MDAs) in the State’s tourism cluster on
teamwork as it is crucial to the
development of the sector.

Mr. Anderson who was on inspection to
the Cultural Centre Complex said the sector
is so vast that everybody’s contribution
will be respected while at the same time
making conscious efforts not to overstep
boundaries.

“It is evident that the synergy between
those before us made the State’s Tourism
sector to break boundaries and I hope
that with spirited team work, we also will
make history,” Mr. Anderson remarked.

He reiterated Government’s commitment
to address the challenges facing the
complex, assuring that His Excellency,
Senator Prof. Ben Ayade will receive the
inspection report and is sure of a positive
outcome as the Cultural Center is one of
the key infrastructures of the State.

The Commissioner further appreciated the
efforts of the Management and Staff of the
Department of Culture and Heritage in
running the Center despite the lean
resources and encouraged Staff to be
committed to their duties.

Earlier, the Special Adviser, Department of
Culture and Heritage, Governor’s Office,
Barr. Obeten Ewa Nkpang, welcomed the
team and expressed delight at the visit
and assured the team of the Department’s
commitment to improve on the sector.

Barr. Nkpang highlighted some of the
achievements recorded so far, which
include the motor park beside the
complex.

“When I assumed office, there was no
gate, the motor park even extended into
the premises of the complex. Hoodlums
started living inside some of the offices as
there were no security operatives on
ground.

I made efforts to first of all try to
move the park by mounting a barricade at
the entrance. It is sad that hoodlums have
turned government’s property into their
personal business space.” He noted.

The inspection team observed flooding,
poor drainage system, insecurity, partial
dilapidation, lack of water supply and
poor documentation of occupancy of
government property as major challenges
faced by the Cultural Center Complex.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of
Culture and Tourism, Dr. Innocent Eteng,
Management Staff of both the Ministry and
Department, amongst others were part of
the inspection.
