An 8-year-old British boy went missing
today from a Portuguese resort. This
caused great panic because that is the
same resort where Madeleine McCann, 3,
disappeared 10 years ago and was never
found.
Initial reports said the boy vanished at
midday today while on the beach but
Maritime Police chief Conceicao Duarte
said he was last seen in the town. After
several hours during which police
launched a search operation, the
youngster was found safe and well early
this afternoon in Praia da Luz.
The Policia Judiciaria, the force involved in
the search for Madeleine McCann,
mobilised a specialist team in Lisbon to
search for him.
They were on their way to
the Algarve from the Portuguese capital
when they were informed the boy was
safe.
Officers from the GNR force were
also conducting house-to-house inquiries
in Praia da Luz when the good news came
through.
The circumstances in which he was found
have not yet been made clear.
It is
understood that he was taken to a police
station in the town of Lagos near to Praia
da Luz.
A source said: "He arrived at the police
station in Lagos around 4 pm."
