The Kano State police command on
Sunday, arrested five Boko Haram
suspects including two women in Gayawa
town in Ungogo Local Government Area of
the state.
The suspects are as identified Abba
Mohammed, 20 and an indigene of of
Niger Republic, Usman Buhari, 23, from
Borno State and Illyasu Abdullahi, 46 from
Gezawa Local Government, Aisha Yau, 25,
and Ladidi Yunusa, 27, both of Kwana
Hudu in Nasarawa Local Government Area
of Kano State.
Briefing newsmen while parading the
suspects on Sunday morning, July 23, at
the Bompai headquarters in Bompai, the
State Police Commissioner Alhaji Rabiu
Yusuf, said they were arrested based on
intelligence report which indicated that
some of the Boko Haram group were
regrouping in some states in the North
including Kano.
Yusuf said his men had been on the trail
of the suspects and their efforts yielded
positive results when the suspects were
arrested at about 2:00a.m. He further
indicated that the police team came under
attack during the operation but repelled
the attack.
Three policemen were injured
from the IEDs and gunshots wounds
during the operation and were receiving
treatment in the hospital.
The Commissioner of Police also explained
that one of the suspects, a dismissed air
force officer, escaped during the gun duel
between the police and the suspects.
Items recovered from the suspects
included one AK 47 rifle, 49 ammunition,
four magazines, pieces of IEDs and two
set of air force uniforms.
