Defending champion Andy Murray has
declared himself fit for Wimbledon
following his hip injury scare.
It comes as the British tennis star
confirmed he and wife Kim Sears, 29, are
expecting their second child.
He said:
"We're both obviously very happy
and looking forward to it."
The couple, who married in 2015, already
have a one-year-old daughter, Sophia.
The world number one and top seed is
due to play on Centre Court on Monday,
where he will face Alexander Bublik of
Kazakhstan, ranked 134th.
Murray sparked concerns he might have to
withdraw from the grass court event after
cancelling two scheduled exhibition
matches this week at London's
Hurlingham Club due to a sore hip.
The 30-year-old was seen limping while
practising at Wimbledon over the
weekend.
But he is convinced he can make it
through two weeks of matches at the
Grand Slam in southwest London.
Murray told reporters: "It's felt much better
the last few days.
"I've had hip problems since I was very
young. Been very sore the last few weeks.
"If I feel like I do today, I'll be fine to play
the tournament. I'll be fine to play seven
matches."
If he wins all seven he will lift the trophy
for a third time after victories in 2013 and
2016.
Murray said he did not think the
pregnancy news would provide extra
inspiration for him as he seeks to defend
his title.
He would not be drawn on when the baby
was due, but said his wife would be
supporting him at Wimbledon over the
next fortnight.
