The UNICEF has called for more support
from the media on sensitising the public
on the importance of enrolling children in
schools.
This was contained in a communiqué
issued at the end of the 2017 National
Enrolment Drive Planning Meeting in
Kaduna on Sunday.
The meeting was organised by the Federal
Ministry of Education and the Universal
Basic Education Commission in
collaboration with UNICEF.
According to the communiqué, media and
stakeholders collaboration would
encourage more enrolment of children in
schools as well as discourage street
begging and hawking.
It said radio and television stations should
partner UNICEF in the production and
airing of jingles, discussion programmes,
drama, special reports and documentaries
on the importance of child education.
The communiqué also resolved that
UNICEF should embark on advocacy visits
to enable public and private media
organisations to facilitate the partnership.
It also called for support in the 2017
enrolment campaign activities scheduled
to take place in October in constituencies,
communities and schools.
