Indiscipline in our society has
risen to the superlative degree.
Unfortunate incidents happen pretty often
all over the globe.
What then is indiscipline? what are the
causes of indiscipline in our society? What
remedies can we offer to solve this nasty
problem of indiscipline in our society? The
answers to these questions are given
briefly below.
What then are the causes of indiscipline?
Certainly, the causes are many and varied.
It can, however, be classified into 3 main
factors namely, the bad home influence,
the poor sch influence, and the pervading
bad influence of our own society.
BAD HOME INFLUENCE:
If a child has no proper home training,
how do u expect him or her to be
disciplined. Today due to materialistic
pursuits and economic exigencies many
parents have little or no time for their
children and so, the children behaves as
they like.
An adage says ‘spare the rod and
spoil the child’. Many parents over pamper
their children and buy too expensive gifts.
Such children from affluent homes who
are driven to school daily in gleaming cars
often look down with scorn to their poor
struggling teachers who can hardly afford
to buy the so called “tortoise car”.
And
when such spoilt children are caned or
disciplined by their poor teachers, their
rich parents use their financial weight and
affluence to ensure that such teachers see
“hell fire” in one way or the other.
Which
Is really worsening matters.
What is the school influence? The principal
of a school can and does influence his
school for good or bad..Take the case of a
principal who is a habitual late comer, a
chain smoker and an occasional drunkard.
Do you think such a principal can
command the respect of his students and
inculcate discipline in them? Never!
Now comes the society! How does the
society contribute to the wave of
indiscipline today? Our society is indeed
sick.
The lack of discipline makes people
act lawlessly and disorderly. Police men,
political leaders, post offices, airport etc
are nothing to write home about.
Indiscipline has taken it’s place in the
society and such needs attention.
What remedies can we offer? To wage a
successful war against indiscipline, all
hands must be on deck. We must all be
involved.
Homes, schools and society must
have close ranks and devise concrete
ways to solving this problem of
indiscipline.
There must be a total
revolution in our ways of life and sense of
values.
Finally, our political and religious leaders
must learn to live up to expectations.
Because they are the mirrors of the
society. The masses look up to them for
political leadership and moral guidance.
If
they are well behaved, the masses is
bound to be disciplined as well, but, if the
other way round, indiscipline becomes the
order of the day.
So for us to wage a
successful war against indiscipline in our
society today, let us all resolve to live
worthy lives- lives of discipline.
The first one; what is indiscipline? Before
finding out what indiscipline means,
perhaps, it is preferable to find out the
meaning of discipline itself.
Discipline
according to ‘Advanced Learner’s
Dictionary of Current English’ is the
‘training, especially of the mind and
character to produce self control and
habits of obedience. Also it is the training
or mode of life in accordance with rules,
subjection to control and order.
From the
excerpt above, there is a clear idea of wat
indiscipline means. It is thus, the lack of
discipline, control, proper training and
order; it means unruly behavior,
disobedience, disorder.
